This bar to psi converter changes pressure from bar to pounds per square inch (psi) and back. Use it for tyre pressure, compressed air, hydraulic systems, pressure gauges and instrument ranges.
Bar to psi formula
psi = bar × 14.504
Example: 2.5 bar × 14.504 = 36.3 psi. A compressed air system at 7 bar is at 101.5 psi.
PSI to bar formula
bar = psi × 0.068948 (or psi ÷ 14.504)
Example: 35 psi ÷ 14.504 = 2.41 bar. A 100 psi line is at 6.89 bar.

barg, bara, psig and psia
Most gauges read gauge pressure (barg, psig): the pressure above the surrounding atmosphere. Absolute pressure (bara, psia) adds atmospheric pressure, about 1.013 bar or 14.7 psi at sea level.
bara = barg + 1.013; psia = psig + 14.7
Convert gauge to gauge and absolute to absolute: 6 barg = 87.0 psig, and 7.013 bara = 101.7 psia. The converter keeps whichever reference you enter.
Common pressures in bar and psi
How to use the bar to psi converter
Choose bar to psi or psi to bar, enter the pressure and select Calculate. The result also shows kPa and MPa. For other units such as kPa to psi, use the pressure unit converter.
Common mistakes
- Mixing gauge and absolute pressure: 1 barg is 2.013 bara, not 1 bara.
- Rounding 14.504 to 14 or 15. On a 200 bar hydraulic system the error is 100 psi or more.
- Confusing bar with kg/cm². They are close (1 kg/cm² = 0.981 bar) but not equal.
Frequently asked questions
How do you convert bar to psi?
Multiply bar by 14.504. For example, 3 bar × 14.504 = 43.5 psi.
How do you convert psi to bar?
Divide psi by 14.504, or multiply by 0.068948. For example, 100 psi = 6.89 bar.
How many psi is 1 bar?
1 bar is 14.504 psi.
What is 2.5 bar in psi?
2.5 bar is 36.3 psi. That is a common car tyre pressure.
What is 35 psi in bar?
35 psi is 2.41 bar.
What is 10 bar in psi?
10 bar is 145 psi.
Is barg the same as psig?
Both are gauge pressures, meaning pressure above atmosphere, but in different units. 1 barg = 14.5 psig. Add atmospheric pressure to get absolute pressure: 1 barg = 2.013 bara = 29.2 psia.
Is 1 bar equal to 1 atmosphere?
Nearly. 1 standard atmosphere is 1.01325 bar, or 14.696 psi.
